All staff members are carefully chosen for their skill, training, experience, compassion and commitment to providing patients with safe and confidential care.
Emergency contraception, commonly referred to as the
Morning After Pill or as
Plan B are used to prevent a woman from becoming pregnant after engaging in unprotected vaginal intercourse. If used within 72 hours of intercourse, Plan B is considered to be approximately 80% effective. The sooner one takes the pill the more effective it is.
Plan B or the Morning After Pill is not effective if you're already pregnant, and it won't terminate an existing pregnancy. It is also important to know that Plan B and the Morning After Pill are forms of contraception but they do not protect against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Some of the side effects may include changes in your period, nausea, lower abdominal pain, fatigue, headache, and dizziness.
Plan B or the Morning-After Pill is not the
Abortion Pill. The Abortion Pill terminates an already existing pregnancy while the Morning After Pill protects against becoming pregnant. The Abortion Pill can be used while up to 10 weeks of pregnancy. However, Plan B or the Morning-After Pill are to be used before implantation of pregnancy, therefore, they are considered to be forms of contraception and NOT methods of abortion. Plan B or the Morning-After Pill is not a recommended method of regular birth control. These pills should only be taken occasionally when deemed necessary.
The Morning After Pill can be purchased in our New York OB/GYN Associates™ private office.
